AAU drops first of two meeting with Dixie State

Box Score

St. George, UT --
The Academy of Art University entered tonight's matchup against Dixie State College after breaking a two-match losing streak with a win over Dominican University.

AAU (11-6) dominated early, but DSCU was able to battle back and force the first game to extras on Mariesa Nielson's kill to knot it up at 28. AAU would go on to win the first set on two DSCU errors, but unfortunately for AAU, that was the lone win of the night.

In game two, Dixie State built leads of 10,11, and 12 points to win 25-16.

In game three, Anna Bullard started the set with five service aces which helped lead DSCU to a 25-12 victory.

For AAU, sophomore outside hitters KaUwila Lavea and Dan Yang combined for more than half of the teams points as they threw down a total of 30 kills.  The Urban Knights had a total of 10 reception errors to DSCU's 1. Head Coach Marcus Young attributes tonight's loss to the teams mental toughness, "We just need to play smarter. We are as physically tough as the teams we face, but we have to become as mentally tough as well. If we do that, I think we will be okay."

The Urban Knights have a chance for redemption tomorrow afternoon as they face Dixie State before returning to the Bay.
