AAU Women Finish 2-0 Against NDNU

The Urban Knights made pretty easy work of the NDNU Lady Argos Saturday evening at the UCSF Rutter Gym. The Urban Knights who advance to 13-6 won 3 sets to 1 (25-21,25-18,25-27,25-14) against NDNU who drop to 1-23 on the year.

The first set was a back and forth battle with both teams having 21 attacks and only 3 kills separating them. The Lady Argos were able to stay in the match with the help of their blocking, they finished the set with 7 blocks. AAU, however, was able to pull away late in the set to win the game 25-21.  KaUwila Lavea was three for three in the first set while Jelena Jakovljevic was 4  for 6.

The second set saw the Urban Knights dominate once more. Finishing with almost double the amount of kills than that of their opponent (15-8).  Dan Yang started to come alive for the Knights in the Second match finishing the set with 7 kills on 8 attempts propelling the Knights to 25-18 lead and the game.

Game 3 was all Urban Knights until late in the set when service errors and misjudgments cost them the lead on match point. NDNU was able to capitalize and score 4 straight points to surpass the Academy of Art and win the set 27-25.

In game 4 Academy of Art proved who the better team was on the floor by completely dominating the Argos of NDNU.Dan Yang was virtually unstoppable in the fourth set, drilling home 6 kills on 8 attempts, she finished with a match high 22 kills on 27 attempts and had only 3 errors. The crowd was on their feet for most of the fourth set chanting "Phooey" which is the nickname of the 6'1 transfer student. Levalasi Tupou had the crowd pleased as well, she had a match high 6 solo blocks and combined with her teammates to have 5 assisted blocks, while also throwing down 7 kills. KaUwila Lavea chipped in with 11 kills on the night, and Jelena Jakovljevic   finished the night with 11 kills and 2 solo blocks and 6 assisted blocks. Everything seemed to click for the Knights, Alexandra Leja and Olivia White combined for an impressive 47 assists, with Olivia White having a match high 25.

The Urban Knights return to the floor Wednesday Oct 15, when they take on Holy Names University at their place, for their second and final meeting. Game starts at 7pm.
