At the University of Washington Invitational this past week, Grant Swinton helped deliver NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals provisional marks in multiple events including the Distance Medley Relay on the first day and the 400m on day two.
Joining Rabah Houali, Joshua Browne, and James Young for the DMR on
Jan. 31, Swinton was part of the fastest raw time ever run by Academy of Art track & field in the event at 9:54.28. The collective mark ended up fifth in the country at the DII level, earning the team a strong provisional spot. The time settled those individuals into first historically ahead of the ART U team of Victor Moreau, Michael Houston, Houali, and Gatien Ariau who went an adjusted 9:58.76 back in 2018.
Individually in the 400m on
Feb. 1, Swinton ran his best race in an ART U uniform, rising to 17th in the nation as an Indoor Nationals provisional qualifier. Taking third of 40 in the event itself, the Communications & Media Technologies major went 48.49 across the finish line.
"Grant ran well in the 400m and is really starting to understand and execute the race properly which has led to significant improvements in his performances," said director of track & field/cross country Kevin LaSure.
