Klay Brown Named Elmcor Youth Honoree Of The Year

Klay Brown - Elmcor AwardQUEENS, N.Y. – Academy of Art men's basketball senior guard Klay Brown had a fantastic season on the court which culminated in being named to the All-PacWest Second Team, and the honors continued to roll in for Brown as he was recently named the Elmcor Gala Youth Honoree of the Year as a fundraising gala on April 21 hosted by Elmcor Youth and Adult Activity, Inc.

"Playing for Elmcor was a blessing for me as a kid," Brown said. "The love the program showed me even during tough times will always mean the wold to me. I am grateful for being recognized as a leader in my community and role model for others."

It was another banner year for Brown, who was among the key leaders of this season's Academy of Art men's basketball squad that returned to the NCAA tournament for a second straight year, capturing the program's first ever tournament victory with a 93-89 overtime win against Saint Martin's in the opening round. Brown became the ART U career leader in steals in just his second season, swiping a total of 71 steals this year after being just one year removed from setting the ART U single-season mark. That gave him a total of 146 for his ART U career, more than 40 compared the second place mark of 104. Even more, his 38 blocked shots this season set a new ART U program record, while his 53 career blocks ended tied for third-most at Academy of Art. Finally, his 97 assists and 952 minutes played were not only a team-high and a career best, they were each the third-most by an Urban Knight in a single season. In addition to his work on the court, Brown also completed 12 community service hours in San Francisco this school year.
