SAN FRANCISCO – Joining in the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this past October, Urban Knights from Academy of Art softball volunteered their time at the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of the Bay Area," a noncompetitive walk supporting the national movement uniting communities to end breast cancer.
One of 150 events of its kind across the country, the walk brought together courageous breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer thrivers, including caregivers, and families alike from start to the finish line. Pink was naturally a popular color choice for costumes among participants, performers, and volunteers who shared experiences and hope for a future without the disease.
Among ART U's contributions were assisting with setup and take down, working a photo booth, and supporting the racers as one of the United States' largest and most impactful breast cancer movements celebrated its 30th anniversary with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop out at Crissy Field.
"This event was truly a beautiful and fun experience to volunteer at," said sophomore catcher/infielder
Olivia Glover. "I've had close family members endure and survive cancer, and seeing those walking as survivors or in support of someone hit home for me. I send my love to all."
