2023 Westmont Invitational Results (Day 1)
GOLETA, Calif. – Through the first round of the Westmont Invitational, Academy of Art women's golf sits fourth overall, just six strokes back of the current tie for first between Point Loma and Hawai'i Hilo. Sophomore
Nicole Yang, currently tied for sixth individually, exits the first day of action out at the Sandpiper Golf Course as the Urban Knights' leader with a three-over-par 75.Â
One of four ART U competitors to be in the top 20 in the first round, Yang currently holds a lead over 28 other competitors. Sophomore Maddie Elias sits just behind Yang, currently at tied for ninth, as she shot a five-over-par 77. In a tie for 15th with a seven-over-par 79 is senior Tessa Geenen while freshman Chantel Tsai one stroke back with a six-over-par 78, currently sitting at 19th place. Graduate student Jae Eun Park and senior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn round out the Knights qualifiers as they each hold a 10-over-par 82. As a team, ART U women's golf are within the thick of the action, with a total score of +23, just one stroke behind Cal State Monterey Bay.
Shooting an even 72 this morning was the individual leader Trinity Ledgerwood of UH Hilo, sitting one stroke ahead Madi Blanc of CSUMB, and with nine other competitors within five strokes. Sitting at fourth place, ART U holds a lead as a team over Westmont by six strokes, and over Occidental by 18.
ART U returns to the Sandpiper Golf Course for the second and final round of the Westmont Invitational tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
