Men's Soccer Drops Matchup Against Azusa Pacific

AZUSA, Calif. – In the second and final match of their Southern California road trip, Academy of Art men's soccer fell to Azusa Pacific 3-0 on Monday at Cougar Soccer Complex.

The Cougars first struck in the 20th minute on a goal from Sean Romo. He received a low cross across the box from Issaka Salifu, and managed to tap it in for the first score of the match, giving APU a 1-0 lead.

The Urban Knights did well to keep the Cougars off the board for most of the rest of the game, but in the 70th minute, Mario Shuteriqi found the net. The Cougars converted another score shortly after in the 82nd minute with a goal by Juancarlos Rodriguez, and APU went on to take the match 3-0 as they improved to 3-5-2 and 2-1-0 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Urban Knights managed to get seven shots off over the course of the match, including two on target that were both from freshman midfielder Joey Glaab. Senior Midfielder/forward Gilly Miller and redshirt sophomore Elvis Mensah would get five shots off collectively, but got none to go.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaiden Brooks racked up three more saves towards his season total and continues to rank among the leaders of PacWest Conference goalkeepers in saves per game (fourth).

After the loss, ART U falls to 2-8-3 overall and 2-3-0 in conference. Academy of Art will return home to face Fresno Pacific on Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 14 at CCSF Soccer Field with a kickoff slated for noon.
