KNIGHT WATCH
Sophomore forward Danielle Medellin watched her first career goal find the back of the net in ART U's last match, lobbing the ball in over the Sharks goalkeeper towards the far post and just under the crossbar. Medellin and freshman midfielder Ashley Tasev currently lead ART U in total shots (8), as both players have been firing away since the season began. Senior defender Raquel Calvo Mendez created some offense for the Urban Knights last match as well, shooting twice (one on target), but the keeper ultimately made the save and did not allow a score. Redshirt junior defender Katie Williams remains as the only Urban Knight to play every minute of the season so far, being involved in all 810 minutes through the season thus far.
Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton still remains the top goalkeeper in the PacWest Conference in saves per game (6.67). Academy of Art goalkeepers are also currently ranked first in total saves on the season (81) as a team.
EAGLES IN IRVINE
Concordia sits at 7-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference and has not allowed a goal during their current seven-game winning streak, which includes a victory against No. 1 Western Washington. This will be the Golden Eagles' fourth-straight home game as they've won their last four matches 1-0 which include two PacWest Conference victories. Riley Walkington leads her team in points (7), assists (3), total shots (19), and shots on target (13). Riley Urquiza will be in goal for the squad, as she's recorded seven shutouts and has not allowed a goal since their first game of the season on Aug. 31 with her PacWest-leading goal against average (.13). CUI is currently 6-0-1 all-time against Academy of Art.
CORRALLING THE COUGARS
Azusa Pacific is looking for their first win since Sept. 14 where they beat Chico State as they currently stand at 3-4-2 and 0-1-0 in conference, and have scored one goal in their last four matches prior to their upcoming match against Dominican on Saturday. Bethany Tee is the leader in points for the Cougars (6), as she's scored three goals with her team-lead in shots (20) and shots on goal (10). Maddie Williams has been in goal every minute thus far for the Cougars, playing in all 720 minutes with 15 saves on 61 shots faced, giving up eight goals on the year. Azusa Pacific has had a record of 8-1-1 when playing ART U all-time.
ART U FINDS SCOREBOARD, BUT HAWAI'I PACIFIC SECURES WIN
Academy of Art women's soccer saw a memorable moment with the first goal of sophomore forward Danielle Medellin's career, however, it was the Sharks of Hawai'i Pacific who would come out victorious, taking
last Saturday's Pacific West Conference matchup by a final of 3-1.
LOOKING AHEAD
The pair of games will lead Academy of Art into their final homestand of their 2023 campaign. ART U will host their Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at CCSF Soccer Field before their last home event, being against Lincoln (Calif.) on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at Paul Goode Field.
