SAN FRANCISCO -- In the fifth match of its six-part Pacific West Conference homestand, Academy of Art volleyball out-blocked No. 18 Chaminade, but the ultimate result was the Silverswords prevailing 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-11) inside Kezar Pavilion.

The Urban Knights matched CUH's quick 4-0 run to start with one of their own as a kill by graduate student outside hitter/right side Maya McClellan was sandwiched by her block alongside sophomore middle blocker Kaia Fittz and a solo rejection. The sides exchanged five ties thereafter and, though kills by McClellan and graduate student outside hitter Amalie Rupertova kept things close, Chaminade was able to move in front and withstand a late push by ART U for the 25-20 win.

Kills by McClellan and graduate student middle blocker Chandra Reed had Academy of Art up early in the second frame, but an eventual 8-1 response from the Silverswords created separation for the 25-12 result in their favor.

Battling back against CUB's 10-5 beginning to the third set, the Knights remained within striking distance, but the Silverswords ended up scoring seven straight before concluding the match with a 25-11 final.

Now 2-13 this season and 1-7 in PacWest matchups, Academy of Art had McClellan finish with eight kills and four blocks (one solo, three assisted) while Rupertova added 12 digs and freshman libero LC-Reece Nakagawa totaled 10 digs.

Chaminade improves to 15-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play following match-highs from the trio of Ajack Malual (12 kills), Leilani Ama (29 assists), and Hula Crisostomo (16 digs).

The Urban Knights' conclude their current homestand this Saturday against UH Hilo with a 2 p.m. first serve.
