Women's Soccer Seal 3-0 Victory In Last Home Match

SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's soccer triumphed out at Paul Goode Field on Tuesday as they shut out the Oaklanders of Lincoln in a non-conference setting with a final score of 3-0.

The Urban Knights attempted their highest number of shots (26) since September 15, 2018, and this effort tied for the sixth-most shots all-time in the history of ART U. Freshman defender/forward Jade Alverio recorded four shots for the team high with freshman midfielder Ashley Tasev, junior defender Haley Vaughan, graduate student midfielder Morgan Day, and redshirt junior forward/midfielder Hannah Moore all tacking on three each.

From the whistle to begin the match, the Knights were hungry for a score and wanted the early lead. In just the eighth minute, they got just that as Alverio whipped the ball into the box off a corner kick towards redshirt junior Katie Williams who finished it off with the header that flew right into the top left corner for her second goal of the season.

The Oaklanders' best chance to score of the day came in the 26th minute when Raylyn Laney tapped a ball towards the bottom right corner from a cross into the box, but sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Calderon was there to clean it up and record the save. Although five more shots would come from the Knights in the first half, none would find the back of the net and ART U would go into the break with a one-goal lead.

Morgan DayThe Knights would get off eight more shots opposed to the Oaklanders' zero before finding their next score, with junior defender/forward Halldóra Einarsdóttir sending a through ball over to Alverio who would lightly tap it past the goalie for the Knights' 2-0 advantage. Less than three minutes later, Day would collect a ball that deflected off the Oaklanders' goalkeeper from a cross into the box before burying it far post for the Knights' third goal of the match.

After this win, ART U improves to 2-11 overall and will travel across the Golden Gate Bridge for their next match this Saturday on Oct. 21 against the Penguins of Dominican with a kickoff set to 3 p.m. at Kennelly Field.
