WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Opening Pacific West Conference play on the road against a formidable Hawaii Pacific squad, Academy of Art women's soccer was unable to generate much offense as HPU came away with a 5-0 victory on Monday.
There was a little room for the Urban Knights (0-8-0, 0-1-0 PacWest) to operate against the Sharks (2-3-2, 1-0-0 PacWest), as HPU scored twice in the first half before adding three goals of insurance in the second frame on a total of 23 shots taken in the match (12 on goal). The first came in the 14th minute from Marcella Chan followed by Mehana Ortiz in the 39th minute. Three more Sharks would join the scoring in the second frame, while the HPU defense did its part to keep ART U off the scoreboard.
Freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon made at least five saves for the eighth time this season, as she has done so in every match she has appeared in. Tonight's effort included a total of six saves, five of which came in the first half. She has now increased her save total to 57 on 209 shots faced.
The Hawaiian road trip continues on Wednesday for the Urban Knights, as ART U travels to Honolulu to battle Chaminade beginning at 10 a.m. HT (1 p.m. PT).
