2022 NCAA Division II National Championship (Round One)
GAINSVILLE, Ga. – Another flawless 18 holes from Academy of Art women's golf junior
Anahi Servin has her atop the leaderboard at the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship, carding a 3-under-par 69 without a single bogey to tie for first after round one at Chattahoochee Golf Club on Tuesday.
Riding the momentum of her
tie for fifth place at the NCAA DII West Regional to earn her individual spot at the National Championship, Servin ended the opening round of the tournament atop a total field of 98 student-athletes, tallying a total three birdies and 15 par saves (tied for the most). The round was a flashback to her
opening round of the West Regional where she also shot in the red without a bogey.
After opening the round with a par on Hole One, Servin collected her first birdie on the par-4 second hole to begin her move up the ranks. Though that was her only time under-par on the front nine, Servin held strong to notch seven consecutive par saves and make the turn remaining at 1-under.
Her streak of saves continued through Holes 10-13, a total of 11 straight, before ultimately finding her second birdie of the round on the par-15 14th hole. Coming down the stretch of her first round and looking at two names above her on the leaderboard, including West Regional individual champion Faith Kilgore of Colorado Christian, Servin was able to clutch up for one final birdie on par-3 Hole 17 to join the two other leaders in the clubhouse.
Servin and Kilgore ended round one as the top two finishers from the West Region, and both are tied with Alex Naumovski of Lee for first place overall. They own just a one-stroke lead over the fourth place finisher, and all seven golfers who shot under-par are separated by just three strokes (three-way tie for fifth place at 1-under-par).
The National Championship continues tomorrow with round two for Servin beginning on the 10th tee box at 9:30 a.m. ET (6:30 a.m. PT).
