SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's soccer first struck for a goal just before half in their non-conference match against Lincoln University, then added another pair of insurance tallies in the final 45 minutes as ART U posted a 3-0 shutout victory on Wednesday.
Shots started right away for both teams, but it was the Oaklanders (1-5-1) with the first scoring chance just four minutes into the matchup. However, quickly taking control was the Urban Knights (1-12-0), topping Lincoln in shots during the first frame, 6-5. The pressure soon proved fruitful for ART U as senior midfielder
Baylie Christensen netted the first half of her brace in the 41st minute, finishing off a low cross from freshman midfielder
Danielle Medellin. Medellin, who had worked her way through the attacking area up the right side of the pitch, secured the first point of her Academy of Art career.
It was déjà vu to start the second frame, as a nearly identical play resulted in the first insurance goal for the Urban Knights. Medellin once more had the ball out on the right wing, this time sending a cross through the air to the waiting Christensen, who used her head to send the ball past the Lincoln goalkeeper. It was the first time in Christensen's career scoring multiple goals in a single match, joining her with 11 other Knights to do so in program history.

Unrelenting in their offensive pursuit, ART U added one more tally for good measure from the boot of freshman midfielder
Natalia Cruz when she scored her first Academy of Art goal in the 81st minute. It was three new Urban Knights to reach the stat sheet on the day, as senior defender
Britney Flint played a ball forward to redshirt sophomore forward
Hannah Moore to set up an attacking opportunity up the right side of the pitch. Moore then sent a cross into the middle, finding Cruz for the day's final marker.
Consistency was key in the ART U offense which took six shots in both frames, but Lincoln finished on top of the shot battle 13-12 after playing the entire second half from behind. Only one of the 13 Oaklanders' shots found the target, however, and it was easily turned away by Academy of Art freshman goalkeeper
Alicia Calderon. Three Urban Knights finished the match with a trio of shots in Christensen, Flint and Moore, with both Christensen and Flint putting two of their attempts on goal along with Cruz (two total shots).
One more match remains this week for Academy of Art, as the Penguins of Dominican await ART U for a Pacific West Conference clash this Sunday, Oct. 16 at noon.
