Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Milivojevic Surpasses 1,000 Points, Comeback Falls Short

OAKLAND, Calif. – It was another come-from-behind effort for Academy of Art men's basketball on Saturday against Dominican, trying to erase a double-digit first-half deficit in Pacific West Conference action. Despite narrowing the lead to just three twice with under a minute in regulation remaining, the Urban Knights saw the Penguins ice the game at the line and hold on for an 84-79 victory and spoil the night that senior guard Stefan Milivojevic joined the ART U 1,000-point club.

Milivojevic's first bucket of the night was when he surpassed 1,000 points in his career, knocking down a jumper in the lane for the Urban Knights (2-5, 2-5 PacWest) just over four minutes into the game. Back-and-forth the action went early on until the Penguins (2-2, 2-2 PacWest) were able to establish control just over the midway point of the first half, as Jordan Williams scored six consecutive points on tough looks with good defensive pressure in front of him. While the lead would swell to 14 at one point in the half, it was only a 47-35 game at the break with both teams shooting above 45 percent from the field. Williams, along with teammate Jaelen Ragsdale, would finish with 15 points apiece in the first half.

As they have most of the season, the Knights turned up the pressure in the second half thanks to its offense, shooting an eye-popping 59.4 percent from the field in the second half. Coming up big when ART U needed buckets was redshirt junior guard Jalen Lovett, pouring in 14 second half points along with seven from senior forward Josh Hill to help close the gap down to three with 0:43 seconds remaining.  However, the Penguins went 4-for-4 from the free throw stripe in the final minute, taking the victory in the season's final meeting.

For ART U, it was the fourth double-double by Hill in six games this season, snatching 11 rebounds to go along with 17 points on 7-for-12 (58.3 percent) shooting, three blocks, and two steals. Milivojevic and Lovett each knocked down a trio of 3-pointers, as Milivojevic led the Urban Knights with 19 points and four assists while Lovett added 17 points on 7-for-9 (77.8 percent) shooting from the floor.

Dominican had a double-double effort of their own by Romeo Mays, tallying 15 points while also grabbing 11 boards. Williams led all scorers with 24 points for the Penguins after going 7-for-13 from the field, while Ragsdale ended his night with 19 points.

Only two games remain on the schedule for the Urban Knights in 2020-21, a pair of contests against Fresno Pacific beginning on Friday at 5:30 p.m. from Walter Gleason Gym.
