HONOLULU – In a Pacific West Conference volleyball rematch from the teams' first meeting in late September, Saturday afternoon saw Chaminade eke out the first two sets, Academy of Art close the third strong, and another closely contested fourth result in a 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20) win for the Silverswords inside McCabe Gymnasium. Freshman outside hitter
Ashley Mecham led all players with a career-high 22 kills as part of her fifth consecutive double-double.
Out in front 7-2 to start, CUH soon built a 19-10 lead, but ART U found its rhythm thereafter and executed a 10-2 run that featured multiple kills from freshman outside hitter
Katherine Von Kraut and senior middle blocker/opposite
Sadie Emery. Down by only a single point at 21-20, the Knights traded points briefly only to see consecutive kills by the Swords earn them a 25-22 win.
From a 7-7 tie, Chaminade went ahead 14-10, but four of the next five points went Academy of Art's way to keep things up for grabs. The lead was then traded as two ART U kills off Mecham's hand helped make it 18-17 Knights before four unanswered from the Swords. A 22-21 score then turned the home team's way once again as three more points made it 25-21.

Chaminade began eyeing another victory with a 12-7 advantage to open the third frame, but the Knights remained within striking distance and proceeded to do so down 16-13. A Von Kraut kill sparked what ended up as 12 of the set's final 15 points for ART U with kills for Emery and junior setter
Picabo Reinhold among the highlights toward a 25-19 result.
Two separate 4-0 pushes led CUH to a 12-6 beginning to the fourth set yet that lead was shortened to just two points after Academy of Art took 10 of 15 points with Mecham and Von Kraut hitting well in tandem. Back-to-back put-aways by Mecham at the end of the surge made the scoreboard read 20-18 Chaminade, but the Knights would come no closer as a 25-20 final concluded the match.
The Knights, now 8-15 overall and 5-10 in conference play, had Mecham's aforementioned 22 kills become her new career-high by three kills while her 10 digs made it now 14 double-doubles this fall. Von Kraut also reached double figures with 12 kills while Emery contributed eight of her own. Reinhold dealt out 37 assists with 11 digs for her ninth double-double of the year and the duo of freshman libero
Elena Torres and senior defensive specialist
Catharina Brant Bambirra combined for 27 digs.
For a Chaminade team that is now 23-5 on the season and 13-3 against PacWest opponents, Greta Corti's 17 kills led four Silverswords with double-digit kill totals. Match-highs in other categories included Alexia Byrnes posting 47 assists and Anna Dalla Vecchia adding 25 digs.
