KNIGHT WATCH
Junior midfielderÂ
Reyna Valencia scored the fastest goal in Urban Knights historyÂ
during ART U's shutout win over the Hawks on Oct. 10, putting a ball in the back of the net just 51 seconds into the contest. By the end of the match Valencia had a hand in all three Urban Knights goals scored, as she also chipped in a pair of assists (the 14th two-assist match in program history). Already entering that game as the team's leading scorer, she currently owns team best marks in goals (two), assists (two), and points (six), and is just one point and assist off of her career-high that she set in 2018 as a freshman (seven points, three goals). Two of her goals have gone down as game winners, tying her for sixth in the conference.
Scoring the first goal of her season against HNU was senior forwardÂ
Brooklyn Morera, as she scored her fifth goal in her last three matches against HNU dating back to last season, and she now leads the team both in shots (27) and shots on goal (nine). Tallying the first goal of her ART U career during the same match was graduate student midfielderÂ
Melissa Wilson, while junior defenderÂ
Avica Robings and sophomore forwardÂ
Brooklyn Villapudua each snagged their first assists of the campaign.
Standing out in goal has been sophomore goalkeeperÂ
Nicole Peoples, as the two-time PacWest Defender of the Week had a streak of 36 consecutive saves without allowing a goal, spanning a total of 354 minutes of game action. Though that streak has since ended, Peoples is still among the best goalkeepers in the PacWest, as she leads the conference in save percentage (.891) and save per game (7.13) while tying for the conference lead in total saves (57). With a 2-4-2 record, Peoples has a low 0.891 goals against average with 3.1 shutouts, with the shutouts tied for the second most in a single season and third most in program history. Also starting in goal this season is senior goalkeeperÂ
Jordyn Wight, who has recorded back-to-back games of at least seven saves, includingÂ
a career-high eight in the the last match against Azusa Pacific. Among her seven saves last match against Hawaii Pacific was a beautiful pair of kick saves, as she has now amassed a .700 save percentage and a 2.67 goals against average with a total of 35 saves on 124 shots faced.
SINKING THE SILVERSWORDS
Just a game below .500 is Chaminade, though their most recent match against Holy Names resulted in a 5-1 victory, snapping a two-match losing streak against No. 17 Point Loma (1-0) and Dominican (1-0). While the Silverswords have only scored 10 goals on the campaign (on an average of only 9.9 shots per match), their defense has been a saving grace by allowing just 11 goals, as eight of their 11 contests this year have been decided by only a single goal. Entering as the leading scorer is Randi Fontes with her three goals for six points, while trailing just behind her is the duo of Caili Cain and Asya Holt with a pair of goals each. Making all 11 starts in goal for the Silverswords this season has been Naomi Takata, as she boasts a .776 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average with 38 saves on 113 shots faced. ART U is in front of the all-time series with CUH, leading 9-5-0.Â
LATE HPU GOAL SPELLS HEARTBREAK FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER
With 86 minutes of game action passed and looking as if Academy of Art women's soccer's match against Hawaii Pacific was destined for overtime, HPU would sneak a goal in the back of the net during the 87th minute to avoid extra time and steal a 1-0 Pacific West Conference victory on Sunday.
LOOKING AHEAD
Only one match remains for the Urban Knights, as ART U will close the season on the road against Bay Area foe Dominican next Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.Â
