KNIGHT WATCH
ART U was on the road for the first time this season the last time out, as the Urban Knights traveled down to Fresno to take on the Sunbirds. Life on the road proved difficult for the Urban Knights, as
they were swept by FPU, scoring just one run over the course of the series. Junior outfielder
Noah Daubin collected a hit in every game, going a combined 5-for-13 including a multi-hit game in game one. Juniors
Cannon Secrist and
Vincent Lontz also collected multi-hit games, with Lontz also ripping a double in game three.
Â
Among those who qualify (2 PA/game and 75 percent of games played), senior third baseman
Thomas Delgadillo leads the way with a .340 average, .476 OBP and 10 runs scored (tied with junior outfielder
Dominic Chavarria). Daubin has the highest average on the team at .353 in his 10 games played. Sophomore catcher
Ryan Gamboa has notched the most hits (20) and total bases (29) on the Urban Knights, as the backstop is hitting .323 with a team-leading 13 RBIs and two home runs. Junior
Ty Conrad and Gamboa each have three doubles, while Chavarria has earned the most walks with 12.
Â
From the hill, junior
Morgan Edwards has posted the lowest ERA with a minimum of four innings pitched with a 0.00 and a 0.71 WHIP. With a minimum of 10 innings pitched, Secrist leads the pack with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. He also tops the team in strikeouts with 32, while senior starter
Matthew Sanchez is hot on his tail with 29 strikeouts.
Â
SLUGGING WITH THE SHARKS
HPU is coming off a doubleheader split its last time out, but overall has lost four of its last five contests against Azusa Pacific and Biola (two of four games were cancelled against Biola). The Sharks also lost the first two games of the season to UH Hilo, both of which were PacWest contests. The top threat at the dish for the Sharks is Jared Bannister, who's boasting a .429 average in 15 games with team-highs in hits (21), RBI (13), slugging percentage (.633), and OBP (.533). Three other Sharks are hitting above .300, including Diego Harris who leads HPU in home runs with two. HPU leads the all-time series with ART U, 43-14, but the Urban Knights won the last time out on
Mar. 25, 2019 by an 8-7 final. Â
Â
TAKING DOWN THE VULCNS
While the Vulcans of UH Hilo are 4-8 overall in the 2020 campaign, they're 4-2 in PacWest play, having begun the year with a pair of victories over the Sharks. After six straight losses, the Vulcans would end their losing streak with a four-game series spilt against Azusa Pacific. Four Vulcans are batting over .300, led by Chris Aubort at .371 and Lawson Faria at .325. Four players have collected 13 hits apiece, including Faria who also has a team-high eight runs scored. Jaryn Kambra has launched two homers to help register a team-high 24 total bases. UH Hilo leads ART U in the all-time series, 45-14.
SUNBIRDS DROP UBAN KNIGHTS IN SERIES FINALE
The Academy of Art baseball team scrapped together three hits, but it wasn't enough to take down Fresno Pacific on the road, dropping the game 3-0. Neither team scored until the seventh when the Sunbirds (11-7) finally got to ART U senior
Matthew Sanchez for three runs, which would be the only runs of the game. Sanchez would go on to finish with eight strikeouts in the quality start, allowing just five hits over 6.2 innings.
