KNIGHT WATCH
20244Junior outside hitter Ashley Pawlak remains the team's points per set leader (3.71) with 3.19 of those coming on her kills per set (third in PacWest among players with 20 or more sets played). She has four double-doubles on the season and is one of four Urban Knights averaging more than 3.15 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Mariana Figueroa Ferriera (3.41 digs per set), Pawlak (3.28 digs per set), junior libero Catharina Brant Bambirra (3.22 digs per set), and sophomore setter Picabo Reinhold (3.19 digs per set) have held the back line, accounting for all 14 of the team's double-doubles. HERE WE AR-GO
Notre Dame de Namur started the year with a win over La Sierra, but proceeded to lose six straight before opening PacWest play by defeating Dominican. The Argos, who were picked to finish ninth in the PacWest preseason coaches poll, are led by Samantha Shaffer's 2.81 kills per set and Rowan Jack's 3.67 digs per set. In a storied rivalry over the last 10 years, Academy of Art is 12-11 against NDNU all-time.

SEEING LIONS
It has been a tale of two halves of the season for Point Loma who started 4-1 and comes into this week's matchup 5-5. Picked to finish fourth in the PacWest preseason coaches poll, the Sea Lions topped Cal State East Bay and SF State early on then fell to Alaska Anchorage and Cal State San Bernardino (now ranked No. 1 in NCAA DII) more recently before opening PacWest play with a win over Concordia and loss to Azusa Pacific. The PacWest preseason Setter of the Year Cara Keturakis has lived up to the hype initially, averaging 8.79 assists per set which rank fourth in the conference while Madie Fox serves as one of the team's top hitters (.327 hitting percentage) and defenders (1.04 blocks per set). PLNU is 10-1 historically versus the Urban Knights.

COUGS NEWS
Receiving votes on the most recent AVCA DII Top 25 Poll, Azusa Pacific was also picked to finish first in the PacWest preseason coaches poll. The Cougars have only dropped decisions to Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Los Angeles in nine matches thus far and are set to face Holy Names on Sept. 27 before Academy of Art. APU carries the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year Julianne Miller, who is currently sixth in the conference in hitting percentage (.352), and Bailey Henington, who ranks second in the PacWest in digs per set (6.03). Azusa Pacific and Academy of Art have faced one another nine times previously with the Cougars on top 6-3.

LOOKING AHEAD
The final leg of ART U's eight-part homestand features the three PacWest Hawaii schools coming to the Bay Area next week. Hawaii Pacific will be first up on Oct. 2 then UH Hilo (Oct. 3) and Chaminade (Oct. 5) will follow.
