Wilson Keeps Scoring Streak Alive, Knights Suffer First Loss

SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art suffered their first loss of the season by a score of 3-1 at the hands of crosstown rival San Francisco State Wednesday afternoon at Cox Stadium, but senior forward Anissa Wilson took another step towards a record breaking year.

Wilson scored her fifth goal of the season in the 67th minute on a free kick she wedged between the Gator goalie and the near post. The score made her third consecutive match with a goal. It also puts her just two back from tying the single-season ART U goals record and her 10 points crack the top-10 in single season points. All this with 15 matches remaining, Wilson looks poised for a historic season.

The Urban Knights' defenses held strong for the majority of the match and junior goalkeeper Lara Pflicke was excellent in goal, securing six saves in the first half alone, but SF State finally broke through in the 60th minute. Katelyn Patterson received a ball at the top of the box, turned and buried a shot in the bottom left corner. Just three minutes later Patterson struck again, when a well executed through ball split the ART U back line and she found the back of the net for the second time to give SF State a 2-0 lead.

Wilson's goal on a free kick from three yards outside the box cut the deficit in half, but another late score by the Gators solidified their first victory and the Knights' first loss of 2019.

Academy of Art remains above .500 after the loss with a record of 2-1 and will look to bounce back on Sept. 13 when they take on the Mills Cyclones in Oakland, California.
