KNIGHT WATCH
Senior forward
Anissa Wilson is off to one of the hottest starts in women's soccer program history after starting the year with back to back two goal matches. Her first goal against Humboldt State on
Sept. 5 was a penalty kick she buried in the bottom left corner and ended up being the game winning goal. Then in the Knights'
3-1 win over Saint Martin's, she kicked off the scoring with a goal in the 45th minute, then ended the match with another in the 67th. Her eight points currently lead the PacWest and are twice as many as the next highest scorer, while her four goals are three more than any other player in the conference. Junior midfielder
Sydney Cooke is the other Knight with a goal in the 2019 season. Cooke volleyed in the game-winner versus Saint Martin's in the 57th minute on a cross from senior defender
Mikayla Lopez who was awarded the assist.
Freshman forward
Brooklyn Villapudua adjusted quickly to the collegiate level and already leads ART U in assists, after collecting two in one game against the Saints. Her two assists also put her tied for the conference lead. Junior midfielder
Alyssa Rasmussen rounds out the Urban Knights that have collected points so far this season. Rasmussen assisted the second goal of the season against Humboldt State for one point.
HOWDY GATORS
SF State opened their season with some high caliber non-conference competition, starting with Regis in Denver. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after junior midfielder Matilda Cassel Ledin scored the Gator's first goal of the year. Ledin is currently the only player on SF State with points. In their second game of the season the Gators took on No. 15 Colorado School of Mines and suffered a 2-0 loss, dropping their record to 0-1-1. ART U is 0-3 all-time against SF State with their most recent loss coming on Sept. 13, 2017 by way of a 2-0 score.
CYCLONES LOOK FOR CLEARER SKIES
Mills has had a rough start to the season with an 0-4 record. Their closest match was their first against Multnomah which they barely dropped 2-0. Since then the Cyclones have been outscored 24-0 in just three matches. Simpson defeated Mills 5-0 before their largest loss of the season, an 11-0 rout by Bethel College. Most recently the Cyclones were defeated 8-0 by Johnson and Wales. ART U has completely dominated Mills in their previous two meetings. Last season the Knights
defeated the Cyclones 5-0 and in 2012 they routed them
10-0 in the highest scoring game in Academy of Art women's soccer history.
WHAT'S UP WOLVES?
Western Oregon comes into their match with ART U with a 1-1 record. The Wolves made a statement in their opening match by blowing out Western Colorado 6-0 and scoring four goals in the first 20 minutes. They dropped their next match 1-0 to Adams State after an own goal in the 85th minute. Prior to the season, the Wolves played a pair of preseason exhibition matches and shutout both opponents. The first match they defeated Linfield 6-0 before taking down Clark College 2-0. Alyssa Tomasini leads the offense with five points on two goals and an assist. Kalli Brundage also has a pair of goals and four other Wolves have earned assists. ART U is 1-1 against Western Oregon all-time and won the most recent meeting 2-1 in Monmouth, Oregon last season.
ANOTHER BRACE FOR WILSON, KNIGHTS HANDLE SAINTS
Senior forward
Anissa Wilson captured her second consecutive brace while junior midfielder
Sydney Cooke scored her first goal of the season to lead Academy of Art to a convincing 3-1 victory over Saint Martin's on
Sept. 7.
LOOKING AHEAD
After the pair of away games the Urban Knights will face Western Oregon at home on Sept. 16, William Jessup on the road on Sept. 18, and end their non-conference schedule with Notre Dame de Namur at Paul Goode Field on Sept. 27.
