SAN FRANCISCO – In the Urban Knights final home match of the season, junior forward
Adrian Cekala injected life into ART U late in the second half with his second goal of the season, but the deficit was too much to make up and Dominican came away with a 4-1 win.
The Penguins were on the board early with their first goal coming in the 8th minute. On the second pass of a give-and-go Arturo Carrillo Contreras drilled a shot to the far right corner of the net to put DU up 1-0. Luke Raley finished the next goal for the Penguins in the 16th minute by beating the keeper to a ball and heading it over him for a tap-in on an unguarded goal. Eight minutes later Raley struck again, intercepting a pass and putting it in the back of the net to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead. By the end of the first half that lead expanded to 4-0 with one final DU goal in the 39th.Â
Academy of Art came out of the halftime break with a newfound intensity that translated into outscoring the Penguins 1-0 in the second half. The lone score in the second half came from Cekala in the 81st minute. Sophomore midfielder
Gilli Kristjansson dribbled into the left side of the penalty box then threaded a nice cross between two defenders to get the ball to Cekala. Cekala took two touches then turned and fired a shot to the back left corner of the net to get ART U on the board and give Kristjansson his first points of the season. But it was too little too late, as the DU defenses did not allow another goal, forcing the Urban Knights to drop a 4-1 decision. Â
Cekala registered a season-high four shots, including two on frame and freshman midfielder
Kendryx Soriano recorded the first shot of his career. Soriano's first career shot was also on target, forcing the Penguins keeper to dive to his right and make a save on a ball that would have otherwise found the left corner of the net. Freshman defender
Duncan Graham saw his first ever collegiate action, contributing 16 minutes.
After the loss, Academy of Art falls to 1-12-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference. ART U will now depart on their Hawaii road trip for a trio of matches against Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific, and UH Hilo.
