KNOTABLE KNIGHTS
After tossing his career-first, 9-inning complete game against Hawaii Pacific over the weekend, junior right-hander
Ben Kaser has been named the
PacWest Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Â
InÂ
game two of the series between ART U and HPU, Kaser mowed through the Sharks, holding them scoreless for the first 7.2 innings. All told, the Van Nuys, Calif. native allowed just one run (earned) on five hits, five strikeouts, and four walks. With the win, he is now 6-4 on the season and his six victories tie Nate Gercken (2015) for the program-lead in single-season wins.
Â
This is Kaser's second PacWest honor this season as he was also named the conference pitcher of the week for throwing ART U's first no-hitter on February 17.
LANCERS MOVING UP THE RANKINGS
California Baptist enters Tuesday's series opener having won 10 of their last 11 games, including taking three out of four from Azusa Pacific who was ranked No. 1 at the time. Since then, the Lancers have moved up to No. 19 in the nation and No. 3 in the region. CBU comes into the four-game set with nine days of rest as they have not played since April 21. The Lancers' Andrew Bash has a fitting last name as he falls amongst the leaders in the PacWest in multiple offensive categories, including: first in slugging percentage (.806), second in batting average (.410), and third in runs batted in (50). This is the penultimate series for California Baptist as a Division II team. In 2019 they will join the ranks of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) as a Division I program.
