2018 Pepsi Florida Relays Results (Day 2)
2018 Stanford Invitational Results (Day 1)
2018 SF State Distance Carnival Results (Day 1)
Academy of Art University Track & Field covered both the East and West Coasts on Friday with Urban Knights competing for a second day in the Pepsi Florida Relays while starting a pair of two-day meets, the Stanford Invitational and SF State Distance Carnival.
GAINSVILLE, Fla. – Day two of three of the Pepsi Florida Relays out at Percy Beard Track inside James G. Pressly Stadium featured highlights from
Mobolade Ajomale in the 100m and
Marion Presigny in both hurdle events.
Competing against some of the same runners he faced in
Thursday's 200m, Ajomale produced a 10.37 mark in the 100m that, while not his fastest of the year, earned him third in a field of 58. He was slightly behind Nike's Omar McLeod (10.32) and between North Carolina A&T's Jaylan Mitchell (10.35) and Rodney Rowe (10.39).
After a
season-best in the 400m hurdles on Thursday, Presigny dropped her top time of the year once more. She would place 22nd of 51 with a 1:02.14 that was just 0.05 shy of provisional qualification. The Albertville, France native also came within a fraction of a second of her season-best in the 100mH, going 14.56 across the finish line.
STANFORD, Calif. – The overall day's highlight came from
Gatien Airiau in the form of a 3000m Steeplechase school record and Nationals automatic qualifier at the Stanford Invitational.
Much like he did at the
same meet last season, Airiau rose to No. 2 in the country in NCAA Division II with a lifetime best 8:49.73 in the 3000m Steeplechase. Already the program record-holder in the event, Airiau followed the only other DII automatic qualifier thus far in 2018, Chico State's Kyle Medina (8:44.40), for the top spot.
HAYWARD, Calif. – Out at Chabot College for the 11th Annual SF State Distance Carnival, a collection of lifetime-bests and one new school record came from the ART U's distance contingent.
The day began bright and early with a program record from
Joshua Thorson in the 10,000m. Finishing midway through a field of 108 total runners, Thorson produced a final time of 31:50.28 to better the record by more than 45 seconds.
The women's 1500m saw two lifetime-bests. Finishing 22nd of 166,
Beatriz Martinez Mercado posted a 4:34.28 that was less than a second off Nationals provisional qualification. She remains second on the program's all-time list.
Ashley Brown moved up to fourth on the list with a personal record of 4:43.08 for 51st overall.
Â
Two Urban Knights placed among the upper fifth of a 131-runner field in the men's 1500m.
Marvin Thomas posted a lifetime best 3:52.32 for 12th overall and fourth on the Academy of Art all-time list while
Rabah Houali's first 1500m in an ART U uniform had him in 24th overall (3:55.19).
It will be another busy day for the Urban Knights tomorrow with second installments at each of the same three sites to conclude the Pepsi Florida Relay, SF State Distance Carnival, and Stanford Invitational.
