2018 Pepsi Florida Relays Results (Day 1)
GAINSVILLE, Fla. – Academy of Art University Track & Field began the 74th Annual Pepsi Florida Relays in impressive fashion out at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium on Thursday afternoon. Opening a historic meet that features 102 universities including 11 nationally-ranked NCAA Division I programs,
Mobolade Ajomale delivered the season's top time in NCAA DII in the 200m.
Coming into the week tied for third in Division II, Ajomale shifted into another gear for his 20.82 mark that put him at the top of the country by 0.20. In a 77-sprinter event that was led by a collection of some of the top athletes from Jamaica, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and the United States, Ajomale placed 11th overall.
On the women's side of the 200m,
Rian Young-Werner posted a personal-best 24.52 to finish in the upper half of a 200-sprinter field. She would end up just 0.06 shy of Nationals provisional qualification. Also in the event,
Jasmine Grace offered a season-best 25.00.
Concluding the Urban Knights' action on day one,
Marion Presigny crossed the 400m hurdles finish line at 102.29 for a season-best of her own.
As ART U continues a busy week tomorrow, more individual events will be contested in the Pepsi Florida Relays, a small men's contingent will compete at the Stanford Invitational, and the majority of both teams will be in action at the SF State Distance Carnival set to be held at Chabot College.
