Silverswords Overcome Knight's Season High in Shots

SAN FRANCISCO -- After dominating the first half with a season high 18 shots including 11 from junior midfielder Adrian Cekala to tie the single game shots record, Chaminade's lone goal was sufficient to defeat ART U 1-0.

"We played the ball in the build up as well we have all season," said coach Matt Martin. "Truly our best possession half in the first."

The Urban Knights completely out-shot CUH in the first period with 18 shots against four Silversword's attempts. The lopsided 14 shot difference marks the largest discrepancy Academy of Art has accomplished all season. Cekala accounted for a career high 11 of the shots and a goal looked inevitable, but the Silversword's goalkeeper made nine saves to keep ART U off the board in the first.

A more evenly played second half saw the first goal of the contest in the 56th minute from Tyler Ebisuya to put CUH ahead 1-0. A ball was chipped over the defense and landed inside a crowded box. Ebisuya got a foot on the ball and knocked it to the back right corner for his second goal of the year.

Academy of Art launched five more shots before the final whistle and ended the match with 23 shots. Sophomore midfielder Jon Peregrina claimed four of the shots and landed all four on target, but the lone Silversword's goal held to finalize the 1-0 score.

"We have to take away that we were good today," said Martin. "We will take that versus Notre Dame on senior day and we will thank them with a great effort."

ART U drops to 2-13-2 overall and 1-8-1 in PacWest play. The Urban Knights will take on Notre Dame de Namur in their final game of 2018 on Nov. 3, a day that will celebrate and honor Academy of Art's four seniors.
