After an offseason full of anticipation and the addition of nine new players, the 2016-17 men's basketball season has finally arrived.
Â
Last year, the Urban Knights got off to a hot start, winning the season's first two games for the first time in program history. As a result, ART U came away as winners of the CCAA/PacWest Challenge, their first tournament of the 2015-16 campaign. At the start of conference-play, the Knights again showed their potential, taking two out of three of their opening contests. However, with a roster short on players, Academy of Art was only able to finish the season with two more PacWest victories.

Head coach
Julius Barnes enters his 5th-season at ART U in 2016. An immediate impact was felt when Barnes joined the program as the Stanford alum led the team to more wins in his first two seasons than the previous four combined. Coaching alongside him is his brother,
Jeremiah Barnes who joined the Urban Knights as Assistant Coach in the same season as Julius. Barnes also announced the hiring of
Glen Worley in September who will serve as the Urban Knights' assistant coach after serving as head coach of the Compton Magic from 2013-16. For his full press release,

Academy of Art will open their season on the road, competing in the SF State Tipoff Classic starting on November 11. Their first matchup will come against the Gators of SF State and their second contest will follow on the 12th against Stanislaus State. For a full release of the 2016-17 schedule,

Marshawn McMahan,
Sergio Valdeolmillos,

Chris Salas. With nine years at ART U combined, these veterans will look to lead the nine-incoming players who joined the team in the offseason. These include freshmen:
Dante Williams (Guard),
Chance Maxwell (Guard),
Ivan Furlan (Forward),
Luka Radovic (Forward),
Anthony Silva (Guard),
Gary Davis (Guard), and
Steven Johnson (Guard) as well as junior transfers:
Kendall Brown (Guard) and
