SAN DIEGO – Academy of Art women's soccer (1-8-1, 1-3-1 PacWest) went toe-to-toe the Sea Lions (5-2-3, 3-1-1 PacWest) on Thursday. Despite a nine-save effort, ART U was unable to break PLNU's defense, falling 3-0.
Â
In the opening period, Point Loma showed up with a strong attack. The Sea Lions got off four shots within the first six minutes and five within ten. In total, PLNU got 10 looks at the net in the first half of which five were on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Maggie Alikpala-Wilson was able to collect four saves, but was unable to keep one from going through in the 24th-minute. Kaiti Freeberg dribbled into the Urban Knights' box and switched sides to Cori Deason who gave Point Loma a 1-0 advantage.
Â
One of ART U's best chances came in the 65th minute. Redshirt junior midfielder
Kendall Bozart kicked in the Knights' second corner of the match, then crashed the net. After seven seconds of bouncing between players in the box, the ball found Bozart's head, but her aim was just wide. Point Loma added their second goal of the match in the 73rd-minute when Deason found herself one-on-one with sophomore goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz who entered the game in the second half. Deason's shot was too far for Wirz to reach, giving her a second goal in the match and 6th for the season. The Sea Lions tacked on one more six minutes later, giving them a 3-0 lead.
Â
ART U will now head to Azusa Pacific where they will face off with the Cougars in Saturday's final game of the road trip. APU is currently tied for third in the conference with a 2-1-1 PacWest record. Â
