University of San Francisco West Coast Last Chance Meet

SAN FRANCISCO – In their final opportunity to post NCAA Nationals qualifying marks, the USF West Coast Last Chance Meet held at SF State's Cox Stadium, Academy of Art University Track & Field delivered several highlights including Jordan Edwards' personal record in the 100m and Valentin Pepiot's season-best in the 1500m.

"At a last chance meet, it's do or die and you have to come in with belief," said head coach Torrey Olson. "Having belief when it's on the line is a skill and I think we had some of our athletes ready to compete today."

In a field of 10 sprinters and several unattached, Edwards achieved something special in his last regular season 100m. He was strong down the stretch to post a 10.314 which bests the previous school record of 10.32 which he had shared. The time jumps him now top-five in NCAA Division II.

"Jordan's race was excellent," said Olson. "Jordan showed that he can run with poise and pushed himself to a new PR."

Pepiot showed his endurance Saturday, contesting the 1500m and 5000m less than three hours apart. His 1500m time of 3:48.20 topped fellow Frenchman Nicolas Rifflard for the new ART U record and had Pepiot second out of the 32 runners on the track. Though he had previously achieved a NCAA provisional mark, he now rises to top-20 in the country.

Also moving up the NCAA DII ladder in the 5000m, Pepiot went 14:31.95 to claim fourth out of 41 runners. It was a new personal record for him and puts Pepiot among the top-three in program history.

"Val took a good step in both races today," said Olson. "Running the 1500m and the 5000m in one day is a challenge, but he accepted it and continues to make progress."

On the women's side, Hadiyah Muhammad and Keanna Moody both took first in their respective events, triple jump and 400m hurdles.

In her first 5000m since last year's Pacific West Conference Championships, Elizabeth Khuu came away with a new personal record of 18:38.82. She would also finish in the upper tier of a 27-runner 1500m.

With its final regular season meet in the books, Academy of Art looks ahead to NCAA Nationals. The culmination of the outdoor season takes place in Allendale, Michigan, will be hosted by Grand Valley State, and spans May 21-23.
