2015 Drake Relays (Friday)
2015 Brutus Hamilton Open (Friday)Academy of Art University track & field made dual appearances across the country on Friday with a small contingent of men competing in the 2015 Drake Relays and the majority of both teams in action at Cal's Brutus Hamilton Open.
DES MOINES, Iowa – In the squad's outdoor 4x400m relay debut, the combination of
James Steptoe,
Jordan Edwards,
Alexander McNally, and
Shaquille Howard posted a 3:12.80 to not only finish fourth of 28 teams, but earn a NCAA Division II Nationals provisional qualifying time in the process. The mark itself was the fourth-lowest in program history.
BERKELEY, Calif. – After the women's horizontal jumps led off the day in the Brutus Hamilton Open, it was
Elizabeth Khuu who delivered the first personal record, going 4:44.10 in the 1500m. Teammate
Ericka Taylor added a PR of her own with a time of 2:15.87 in the 800m. It moved her up to third all-time in ART U history.
Shabari Bailey turned in a pair of hurdle PRs, achieving new top marks in both the 110mH and 400mH.
Other Academy of Art distance athletes were in action as
Austin Esposito and
Logan Means competed in the 1500m, Means was also in the 800m,
Mack Marbas took on the 3000m steeplechase field, and a trio of athletes were in both genders' 5000m.
The Urban Knights will split time over both the Drake Relays and Cal Brutus Challenge again tomorrow.
