SAN FRANCISCO — The Academy of Art University baseball team will tangle with another California Collegiate Athletic Association foe this week when they travel across The Bay to take on Cal State East Bay in a four-game set starting Friday at Pioneer Field.

The Urban Knights (0-2) opened their season at home on Feb. 2 with a doubleheader versus CCAA member Cal State Stanislaus. The Warriors took both ends of the doubleheader, winning 12-1 and 5-1. Cal State East Bay (0-0) debuts its 2015 squad this weekend after a 30-18 campaign in 2014.

ABOUT CAL STATE EAST BAYThe Pioneers (0-0) were 1 1/2 games away from a spot in the CCAA Tournament last season. The Pioneers are coming off back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time in school history under fourth-year head coach Bob Ralston. This year they were picked to finish seventh in the CCAA Coaches' Preseason Poll.

CSUEB returns three of its six All-CCAA honorees from last season. Leading the way is senior centerfielder Kelly Starnes, who led the team with a .352 batting average, 36 runs scored, 12 doubles, four home runs and a .416 on-base percentage. First baseman Daniel Carney was a Second Team All-CCAA honoree after batting .350 for the Pioneers as a junior. Third baseman Ryan Kochan earned All-CCAA honorable mention honors after batting .295 with a .363 OBP and 11 steals in 2014.

RAIN, RAIN STAY AWAYART U will see its first action in 11 days Friday after having its second series of the season postponed due to rain. The Urban Knights were set to face North Bay neighbor Sonoma State in a three-game series in Rohnert Park, but the rain washed away any potential of playing those games. There is still no reschedule date for the series.

A "TWO FOR FOUR" NIGHT FOR SKINNERSenior first baseman
Daniel Skinner had a solid offensive night on Feb. 2 in the season opener, hitting two doubles and reaching base four times in the doubleheader versus Cal State Stanislaus. He also scored the lone ART U run in game two after hitting a leadoff double.

Josh Lopez did well on Feb. 2 behind game two starter
Maclane Brady, shutting out Cal State Stanislaus over the final three innings with only one hit and no walks. Each pitcher also picked up one strikeout apiece.
