KNIGHT WATCHJunior outside hitter
Melissa Brum (3.45) and freshman outside hitter
Stine Raben (3.22) represent one of just three teams with a duo in the Pacific West Conference's top 13. Currently 11th in the conference at 3.45 k/s, Brum needs just seven more kills to become just the second Urban Knight ever to reach the
1,000-kill milestone.
Senior setter
Rachael Smith, averaging 9.8 assists per set (sixth in PacWest), is up to 3,830 assists for her career with six matches remaining. Sophomore middle blocker
Margaret Winkler ranks third in the PacWest in blocks per set (1.02). Junior libero
Kabrina Speakman leads the team defensively with 4.12 digs per set.
I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUELAfter winning six matches to open the season (including a 3-1 victory over then-ranked No. 13 Sonoma State), Chaminade started strong in conference play and has gone back and forth with wins and losses over the past month. The Silverswords defeated Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Pacific each in five sets at home, but dropped more five-setters to Azusa Pacific, UH Hilo, and NDNU most recently on Nov. 3. CUH carries the top hitter in the PacWest in terms of hitting percentage with Daisia LaBrie coming in hitting .367 while Keani Passi is sixth in the conference with 3.93 kills per set. In 11 historical meetings, Academy of Art holds an 8-3 lead over Chaminade.
SHARK ATTACKNow second in the PacWest in kills per set (13.51), Hawaii Pacific had its 3-1 victory over Academy of Art on (Sept. 15) come during an eight-match win streak that was broken up by Point Loma. Winners of just one match in their last six, the Sharks are set to play Fresno Pacific (Nov. 4) and NDNU (Nov. 6) prior to facing ART U on Saturday. Like the Knights, the Sharks have an offensive duo both in the conference's top 10 in terms of kills per set with Pomai Recca (3.74) and Elizabeth Culpepper (3.69) ranked eighth and ninth. HPU is ahead of ART U 9-3 in the historical matchup after the teams' meeting earlier this season.
VOLLEYBALL DROPS HEARTBREAKER IN OAKLANDAfter a rollercoaster ride through four sets of action, ART U volleyball had three chances to win, but a resilient Holy Names team ended up coming back to take the victory 3-2 (25-22, 17-25, 17-25, 25-21, 19-17) on
Oct. 31. The Urban Knights had multiple season-highs to go with a career-high of 14 kills from freshman middle blocker
Safua Elisaia in the loss.
LOOKING AHEADAs the season moves into its home stretch, Academy of Art will host both California Baptist (Nov. 13) and Azusa Pacific (Nov. 14) later next week.
