ART U Women's Soccer Edged 1-0 by NDNU

BELMONT, Calif.-ART U Women's Soccer opened up its last road trip Thursday morning against 13th place, PacWest foe Notre Dame de Namur. It was a defensive struggle at Koret Field with only one goal being scored in the contest.

The echo from the first whistle has just dissipated when NDNU midfielder Macee Broer was able to squeak one by sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Alikpala-Wilson in the 7th minute. However, after allowing said goal, the Academy of Art hunkered down on defense for the remainder of the match.

All in all, the Urban Knights, now 4-11-0, 3-7-0 (PacWest) and the Argonauts 3-12-0, 3-7-0 (PacWest) were evenly matched throughout, spotting the same number of shots on goal (7) and nearly identical shot totals (14 and 13 respectively).

The Urban Knights' head coach Katie Awerkamp credited her team's ability to create so many opportunities "with the way [they] transitioned quick in the attack. It was exciting to see since [they] have been working on it so much lately."

ART U junior defender Laura Mick found herself with her foot on the ball for the majority of the Urban Knights' chances on goal: Mick was credited with five of the team's 14 shots and three of the team's five on goal.

SPOOKY RIVAL MATCH
Saturday, October 31st, the Academy or Art Women's Soccer team will head on the road for the last time this season as they face their 7th place rival, Dominican University of California. Coach Awerkamp mentioned that the team will need to be ready as "Dominican is going to be organized defensively, so [they] will continue to keep that attacking mindset going forward."
