Women's Hoops Routs Dixie State 83-61

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO – Converting a season-high 31 opponent turnovers into 36 points, Academy of Art University Women's Basketball led wire-to-wire in an 83-61 victory over Dixie State on Saturday night inside Kezar Pavilion. Five Urban Knights scored in double figures led by junior guard Jasmin Guinn's 21 points along with 10 apiece from junior guard Regina Camera and sophomore forward D'Andree Galipeau off the bench.

Following a pre-game ring ceremony honoring the 2014 ART U's Pacific West Conference regular season and tournament championships, ART U came out strong with four quick points and soon an eight-point lead five minutes in. On back-to-back trips down, Galipeau scored a layup and Camera drained her first shot from long range. Camera then found Guinn after a steal and the Knights led 19-9.

After nearly four minutes ticked off the clock with only a single point being scored, Dixie State proceeded to cut down the advantage with a 9-2 run that was eventually stopped when Camera swiped another and went coast-to-coast for the layup. That sparked an 11-1 run that featured triples by both junior guard Sha'Nice Storey and Guinn as well as a fastbreak layup by senior guard Molly O'Brien to put her team up by 14.

Both sides went back and forth for the final five minutes of the opening half before junior guard Zoie Sheng found Storey for a 3-pointer to put Academy of Art ahead by its largest lead, 45-28, at halftime. That basket ended up starting a 15-0 run across the intermission as the Knights continued to storm the paint with junior center Caron Brown and Guinn scoring high percentage looks. Shortly thereafter, Sheng and Camera knocked down triples on consecutive trips down and when the dust settled, ART U led 57-28.

Held to not a single point until after five minutes had transpired in the second half, the Red Storm scored their first points and began trading baskets despite a nearly 30-point deficit. Redshirt junior guard Vianai Austin came off the bench hot, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in a span of a minute to create a 33-point margin midway through.

DSU worked an 8-2 response as the half approached its end, but buckets by Galipeau and Guinn in the final four minutes maintained the 20-point lead and the final score saw ART U secure an 83-61 victory.

The win boosts Academy of Art up to 12-8 overall and 7-5 in PacWest play. Guinn led five Knights in double figures with 21 points while Sheng added 15 points and Storey delivered 12 points. Sheng put up six rebounds and four assists as well. Headlining a bench contingent that scored 27 of the team's 83 points were Camera and Galipeau who chipped in 10 apiece (Galipeau's tied her career-high). Brown grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Dixie State drops 5-14 overall and 4-9 in conference play despite a double-double from Taylor Mann (14 points, 11 rebounds). A dismal 2-for-21 performance from long range combined with 31 turnovers were a recipe for the Red Storm's defeat. DSU missed its first 16 three-point attempts including all nine in the first half.

Academy of Art will turn around and face Point Loma in a PacWest rematch this Monday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. back inside Kezar Pavilion.
