Box Score
San Francisco, CA — Hawaii-Hilo's Kristine Pasek scored twice Saturday, both after the Academy of Art University women's soccer team had taken a 1-0 first half lead, and the Vulcans came away with a 2-1 win at CCSF.
Â
ART U (1-6-1, 1-1 PacWest) pulls even in its conference record with the defeat after winning its conference opener Thursday 2-1 over Hawaii Pacific. UHH (4-1-2, 1-0-1 PacWest) extended its unbeaten streak to six matches with the win.
Â
Academy of Art won the shots battle 13-10 and for the second straight game was the first to score when junior midfielder Brooke Stewart found the net for her first goal of the year from 16 yards out in the 23rd minute. The Urban Knights sent the ball into the box on a cross and the Vulcans tried unsuccessfully to clear it. That's when Stewart found a bouncing ball on the right side and put a foot on it to lob it into the right side of the net for the score.
Â
The lead was short-lived, however. Pasek received a pass on the restart as she sprinted down the field, beating one defender and shooting low to tie it at 1-1 12 seconds later. The score would remain that way through halftime.
Â
Pasek put the Vulcans ahead for good in the 53rd minute when she headed in a deflected shot from six yards away. Jessica Heade's shot from the right was deflected by ART U goalkeeper Rachael Rempe, but as it went wide of the net, Pasek found it and tapped it in for the 2-1 advantage.
Â
Rempe made four saves and Hawaii-Hilo goalkeeper Jenna Hufford also made four stops. Â The Urban Knights pressed hard in the final 15 minutes, with junior forward Réa Laudat acting as the center of the attack with four shots to lead the team, but the Vulcans' defense held on for the win.
Â
The Academy of Art concludes its three-match homestand at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with a PacWest contest versus Dominican (Calif.) at CCSF.
