San Francisco, CA — The Academy of Art University women's soccer team will look to build momentum going into the PacWest Conference season by closing out its nonconference schedule this week with a strong effort against two California Collegiate Athletic Association teams.
Â
Wednesday the Urban Knights (0-4) return home to face Cal State East Bay (2-1-1) at Crocker Amazon Park with kickoff set for 11 a.m. Friday the Knights head to Rohnert Park to face Sonoma State (5-0) for their final nonconference matchup of the season, starting at 1 p.m.
Â
ART U is coming off of an 0-2 showing at the Warrior Challenge, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock. Senior goalkeeper
Rachael Rempe earned the tournament's Golden Gloves award for best goalkeeper after making 18 saves in two matches. Sophomore defender
Mariandrea Otero Molano also made the all-tournament team after helping the Knights shutout then-No. 8 Cal State Stanislaus for 55 minutes.
Â
HOME SWEET HOMEWednesday's home match against Cal State East Bay is the Urban Knights' first of four matches out of the next five to be played on home turf. ART U kicks off the PacWest Conference schedule next week with three straight home contests against Hawaii Pacific (Sept. 25), Hawaii Hilo (Sept. 27) and Dominican (Calif.) (Oct. 4).
Â
WELL ON HER WAYThrough four matches the seasoned veteran Rempe is already on pace to once again etch her name in the Academy of Art record books. She's logged 25 saves in four matches, a pace that would put her at 87 saves on the year – fourth-most all-time. Her 6.25 saves per game would be second-best all-time at ART U, just behind Hana Klimek's 6.45 in 2012.
Â
THE 200 CLUBRempe has already notched one milestone this season. With her sixth save Thursday against Humboldt State, she tallied her 200th save minding the net for the Urban Knights. She owns the ART U career record for saves with 212 and is the only goalkeeper in Academy of Art University history to log 200 or more saves.
