ART U Falls In Series Finale With Lancers

Box Score

Riverside, CA -- In the series finale against California Baptist University, the Academy of Art University baseball team once again had a couple golden opportunities but couldn't convert on the offensive end, as the Lancers used another hitting outburst to send the Urban Knights to a 9-0 loss. Chucky Cavestany had two more hits for the Knights to extend his hitting streak to six games and raise his average to .336 on the year.

The Lancers got a run in the first off of starter Aaron Garabedian after two outs had already been recorded, taking advantage of a walk and a steal before Nathan Antoun singled home the first run of the game. They would add two more in the third inning on a double from Andy Crowley to go up 3-0, while on the other side of the ball they had some good chances go by the wayside.

In the first inning Kalani Brackenridge was caught stealing on the front end of a double steal, while in the fourth inning Chucky Cavestany was stranded at third base after getting into scoring position with only one out. They had another chance in the fifth, but for the second straight game Academy of Art had a runner thrown out at the plate trying to score, with Jordan Thomas trying unsuccessfully to score from second on a single to right by Daniel Robertson

California Baptist added two more in the fifth inning as the frame started off with back to back errors. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, Mark Sanchez singled up the middle to make it 5-0. They would add four more in the sixth off of Garabedian to end his day, as Nick Boyett came in with runners on second and third, and the sophomore worked his way through the inning and around an error, but it was 9-0 in favor of the Lancers.

The Knights would only get one hit over the last three innings, a double from Cavestany in the ninth, while they would manage only one hit of their own off of Boyett for the rest of the way. Boyett would go three innings, allowing the one unearned run while striking out three and lowering his ERA to 3.31 on the season. Tyson Miller (5-1) picked up the win for CBU, while Garabedian (2-6) was saddled with the loss.
