Match Results

Turlock, CA --
Finishing off the regular season on a high note, the Academy of Art University tennis team dominated Cal State Stanislaus in a big 8-1 victory. For the Urban Knights, the three game winning streak at the end of the year put their record heading into the seeding meeting for the PacWest Tournament at 15-2, as they beat the Warriors 8-1 for the third time in a row.

"The girls were in good spirits and got the victory as a team," said head coach Beth Daub. "We're focused on the upcoming tournament but were really trying to take it one match at a time, and I think we stayed with the game plan today to finish the regular season with a win."

The Knights started off strong in doubles play, as they have all year, losing only one set across all three matches. Nina Gajdosikova & Daniela Amelunge Antelo defeated Jessica Laurie & McKenzy Harden 8-1 in first doubles, improving to 10-7 on the year. Jenny Johansson & Lucia Zavarcikova (14-1) Michelle Dandik Zaale & Annika Schneider (15-1) both beat their opponents 8-0 in second and third doubles, respectively, to complete the sweep.

In singles play, Gajdosikova beat Laurie 6-0, 6-1 in the top spot, earning her 10th victory of the year. Zavarcikova beat back a comeback attempt by Harden in second singles, winning 6-0, 7-5, while Dandik Zaale retired with the match already in hand, giving the singles win to J'Ana Diamond. The Urban Knights continued their domination in fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, as Amelunge Antelo (6-1, 6-2), Johansson (6-0, 6-0), and Kinga Kurczbuch (6-0, 6-0) all earned wins in straight sets. Over the course of the year, those three spots have combined for a 45-5 record, or a .900 winning percentage.

"They have accomplished so much this season and we still have more to go," said Daub. "They have really come together to achieve their goals and I know they have not yet reached their limit. We're looking forward to getting to Arizona and seeing what we can do."

The PacWest Tournament will start later on this week, running from April 16 to April 19 in Phoenix, AZ. The seedings and matchups for the tournament will come out early next week.
