Final Standings
Vallejo, CA -- After battling the elements yesterday, the Academy of Art University women's golf team improved on their body of work from yesterday to finish fourth in the Pioneer Shootout, hosted by Cal State East Bay. The Urban Knights, led by
Deanna Tyndall and
Crystal Wang, who both finished in the top ten, cut nine strokes off their first round score to close out the tournament with another top-five finish.
The Knights fired a 323 in the final round, ahead of their 332 that they had yesterday to finish with 655 as a team. Tyndall dropped five strokes off her first round score to finish at 76 on the day and 157 in the tournament and tie for fourth. Right behind her was
Crystal Wang, who duplicated her first round score of 79 to take the sixth spot.
Melissa Genao took off a stroke to take 16th place,
Roxanne Matta took off four strokes of her opening score, and
Mariana Pazos fired a 183 in the tournament for the Knights.
In the team score, host Cal State East Bay took the title and the top two spots in the individual standings. Chico State was 11 strokes back in second place, while Western Washington placed third with a team score of 654. The Knights were only one stroke behind the Vikings with a score of 655, while Sonoma State finished in fifth place.
There were a dozen golfers who needed to finish the first round who got out on the course early this morning amid rain and wind, but the conditions got better during the day as every team was able to finish. The Urban Knights will be back on the links next weekend at the Lindsay Olive Wildcat Invitational up in Chico.Â
