Knights Tie Highest Finish of Spring In Chico

Final Results

Chico, CA -- It took extra time to decide their fate, but the Academy of Art University women's golf team continued their impressive spring campaign with a second-place finish at the InterWest Chico State Invite. The Urban Knights were led by senior Deanna Tyndall, who was tied for first place at the end of 36 holes, forcing a playoff before finishing in second place overall.

The Knights posted another strong round and would finish with their highest placing in the standings so far this year after a total score of 652. Sonoma State crept up in the standings to overtake them in the final round, firing a 319 in the final round to finish at 645. Host Chico State fell to third place, shooting 655 overall. Cal State East Bay (661) and Cal State Monterey Bay (662) finished up the field.

Tyndall followed up her strong opening round by only dropping a stroke, shooting 77 in the second round and tying with Linda Brown (CSUEB), going to a playoff that ended with Brown taking the top spot. For the Knights, Mariana Pazos tied for ninth place, while Crystal Wang (168) and Roxanne Matta (169) were separated by one stroke. Melissa Genao shaved three strokes off her first round score to finish strong.

The Urban Knights will take two weeks off and be back on the course on March 24 at Cal State Monterey Bay.Â
