Reno, NV – Academy of Art University women's basketball bounced back with a solid second half facing NCAA Division I University of Nevada in an exhibition contest on Friday night.

"Getting a Division I exhibition game is huge for us," head coach LaNay Larson said. "We got to play a very experienced team that has size and athleticism and is going to have a great season. We are more than capable of competing at that level and showed it spurts, but it needs to be more consistent."

After Nevada started with a three-point play, junior Regina Camera found junior Krystal Forthan for the first ART U basket of the night. The Knights frustrated the Wolfpack with a strong defensive effort, forcing four turnovers in the first five minutes, but were unable to capitalize and trailed 12-7 before a two-minute scoring drought by both teams.

Steady offensive production by Forthan kept Academy of Art close until a 10-2 run by Nevada put the home team up 31-17. Layups by UNR's Nyasha LeSure and Teige Zeller were the only two field goals made by either team in the final 5:50 as both sides struggled to find their shooting touch. At the break Nevada held a 33-19 advantage despite 13 turnovers.

The Wolfpack started the second half with a 7-0 run, but the Urban Knights came back with their own 7-0 push keyed by a triple from junior Sha'Nice Storey. After trading baskets, UNR established a 20-point lead which ART U again cut into by way of a 6-0 run on jumpers from juniors Caron Brown and Jasmin Guinn.

With 6:47 left, a Nevada triple from Terilyn Moe made it 63-43 and that margin would remain the rest of the way as the Wolfpack went on to win 74-51.

Forthan finished with 14 points and four rebounds while Storey added 11 points (two 3-pointers) and four rebounds. Active throughout her 30 minutes on the floor, Guinn posted eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals while six of Camera's eight boards came on the offensive glass.

"We got some good shots, but we were ice cold to say the least and need to fine tune some things on offense," Coach Larson said. "Those shots are going to fall; I'm not panicking. I thought our defense and rebounding looked greatly improved which is important because it can be hard to stay focused when you can't get a shot to fall."

Academy of Art officially begins its 2014-15 regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 in a neutral site contest against Cal State Monterey Bay as part of the NDNU Classic Tournament.
