Belmont, CA -- The Academy of Art University women's volleyball team hit the road to the South Bay but weren't given the warmest reception, as Notre Dame de Namur swept the Urban Knights in three sets. The Knights held a lead in the first set, but the Argonauts came back and carried that momentum through the rest of the match, winning by scores of 26-24, 25-16, 25-19.
Melissa Brum continued to lead the Knights in kills with another 10-kill performance.
Academy of Art was up in the first set as late as 24-22 behind six kills from Brum in the opener, but the Argonauts rattled off four straight points to take the game and go up 1-0. NDNU held onto that momentum into the second set, taking a 9-1 lead and holding off an ART U comeback that saw them close to a 16-10 deficit, preserving an eventual 25-16 victory. The Urban Knights battled in the final set, as a kill from Brum tied it up at 5-5, and keeping it close at a 21-18 deficit later, but a late run by NDNU finished off the set and the match.
Brum had her ninth double-digit kill match in 12 tries, giving her 129 kills on the season.
Caitlin Boring had eight kills on a .368 hitting percentage, while
Emily Papale had six kills and a team-high 14 digs. Dominique Tarrant had a match-high 14 kills to lead all hitters, while NDNU setter Kamene Rose had 35 assists.
The Knights will have an opportunity to gain some ground on their conference record with three games against the contingent from Hawaii, taking on Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific next week at home in San Francisco.
