San Francisco, CA -- When the Academy of Art University women's soccer team headed to play Notre Dame de Namur on Saturday, they were intruding on the turf of the PacWest's top scorer. And while they did a fantastic job containing Adriana Cortes, it was other attackers on the Argonauts that were able to hurt the Urban Knights, as they fell to NDNU 3-0 at Koret Field.

"We were able to hold their powerhouse offense player, Cortes, in check with only one shot on goal," said head coach Aileen Nasypany. "We came out strong, missing a few close opportunities right out of the gate. The ladies battles but the result did not turn out the way we wanted. We spent a lot of time this week preparing for these two local match ups. So the team and coaching staff are glad we will have the opportunity to get right back out there on Monday and play ART U soccer the way we are capable of."

The Argos (4-5, 2-1 PWC) got on the board quickly, scoring in the eighth minute of the game when Cheyenne Kisthardt got a ball through to Jessica Santos, who came out on top of a one-on-one with the keeper and put NDNU up 1-0. Almost exactly 20 minutes later, Santos got another chance, this time from Cortes, and used her left boot to kick it to the far post and put the Argos up 2-0. Meanwhile, the Knights (1-5-1, 0-2-1 PWC) were unleashing a barrage of shots at the goal, matching NDNU's shot total from the first half (nine) but unable to find the back of the net. They had two back-to-back in the 12th minute, but Kelsee Berryman turned both shots away, and the Knights went in at the break down 2-0.

Notre Dame used another quick strike to extend their lead in the second half, scoring in the sixth minute of the second period as Massiel Castellanos found Andrea Huerta-Martinez off a corner kick to the back post to make it a 3-0 game. Academy of Art was unable to get the same consistency on the attack as in the first half, settling for just one shot on goal from Hannah Emmett in the 78th minute. Rachael Rempe had seven saves on the day, while Miranda Corneliussen continued to boost the Knights attack with two shots on goal.

The Urban Knights will turn it around for a rare Monday afternoon contest against Dominican University on Monday at Crocker-Amazon Park.
