St. George, UT -- The Academy of Art University women's tennis team improved to 11-1 on the year with an impressive victory over Division I Weber State last weekend to conclude the Dixie State College Invitational. The Urban Knights swept doubles play for the third time in the tournament and battled the Wildcats in singles play to seal the win.

Amal Ben El Hadj had a perfect 8-0 match in second doubles, while

Jenny Johansson handled their business over Carly Lloyd and Nittaya Phonharath by a score of 8-2, giving the Knights a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Weber State did their best to claw back into the match, however, ending the Knights streak that had extended to 21 match wins over the entire tournament when Elmer defeated Gajdosikova in a three-set match by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Dandik Zaale also took a defeat in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 10-4), but Ben El Hadj got the Urban Knights back on track with a three-set win of her own, beating back Phonharath 4-6, 6-2, 10-6. Amelunge Antelo (6-2, 6-3) and Johansson (6-0, 6-0) finished off the Wildcats to secure the win and extend the Knights win streak to five games.
Ben El Hadj (11-0) and Johansson (10-0) stayed undefeated in singles play on the year, while the Knights 11-1 start is the best in program history. They'll have a pair of doubleheaders at home starting next week, facing Notre Dame de Namur (9 AM) and Winona State (2 PM) on Sunday before taking on Montana State (9 AM) and Holy Names (1:30 PM) next Friday.
