Etow Powers to Second Place Finish at NDNU

The Academy of Art University men's golf team split the difference from their first two rounds in the finale of the NDNU Argonaut Invitational and finished fourth overall, putting significant space between them and the rest of the field behind them. Sean Etow moved up from fifth place yesterday to finish second overall, only two strokes behind the winner.

After an opening round of 302 and a second round of 304, the Urban Knights finished the tournament on a high note, shooting 304 on the day and finishing with a score of 912 overall. Starting the day seven strokes ahead of California Baptist, they finished 15 strokes ahead of their PacWest rivals in fifth. Cal State East Bay (889) took first place, while Saint Martin's University (897) and Dallas Baptist (899) flip-flopped to finish second and third, respectively.

Etow's round of 72 (E) was the second best score of the day to finish two strokes behind the leader through all three rounds, Chris Herzog (CSUEB). For the rest of the Knights, Alberto "Dago" Esponda fired 77 (+5) in the final round to finish tied for 18th place with his teammate Tommaso Vielmo, who cut four strokes off his second round score to rebound with a 76 (+4). Dat Do finished tied for 24th place in the field of 42. Overall, Etow split up the two Pioneers, as A.J. Herbert (221) finished third. Ben Fosnick of Saint Martin's finished fourth with a score of 222, while Johnny Antle (Dallas Baptist) and Micah Machado (CBU) tied for fifth place.

The Knights will be back in action at the Grand Canyon University Thunderbird Invite in two weeks.
