KNIGHT WATCH
Through two games this season, ART U has done much of its damage at the free throw line. Two of the teams' leading scorers, Molly O'Brien and Jasmin Guinn, each have 13 foul shots made and are currently combining for 25.0 points of the squad's 66.5 points per game. Guinn is also the Knights' leading rebounder after a 13-rebound performance versus Western Oregon upped her to 8.5 boards per game. 2013-14 Preseason All-PacWest selection Sha'Nice Storey had a nice weekend in her home state of Oregon, coming out with 13.5 ppg to tie her with O'Brien for the team lead. Alisa Griggs and Regina Camera are each averaging 6.0 rebounds per game while Zoie Sheng has combined with Guinn for a mind-boggling 6.5 steals per game thus far.

HUMBOLDT HUNGRY FOR MORE AFTER OVERTIME WIN
Picked to finish eighth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, Humboldt State comes off its lowest win total in the past nine years (10-18, 6-16 CCAA in 2012-13). At 1-1 overall this year, the Lumberjacks were able to end their first pair of contests on a high note by upsetting then six-ranked and defending West Region champion Western Washington, 77-68 in overtime, in the West Region Classic at Fresno Pacific. HSU started the weekend off by seeing its late hard-charge fall a bit short, 71-66, to Seattle Pacific, but bounced back against WWU thanks to a game-high 23 points from Kersey Wilcox who was named the Wilson/CCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Wilcox averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and has made all 14 of her foul shots to date. For all of Wilcox's success, it is Jae Shin who comes in as the Jacks' leading scorer, averaging 21.5 points per game thanks in large part to the 28 she dropped against Seattle Pacific. She is 10-of-18 from long range thus far. In four historical meetings, Humboldt holds a 3-1 advantage though the Urban Knights put away the Jacks 85-65 at last year's CCAA/PacWest Challenge.

Jasmin Guinn
PIONEERS IN SEARCH OF FIRST VICTORY
Cal State East Bay was slated to finish fifth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, but has yet to record a win thus far in three chances. After going 16-11 overall (14-8 CCAA) last year including a stretch where the Pioneers won nine in a row, CSUEB has fallen to two ranked teams, #9 Concordia-St. Paul and #5 Emporia State, along with Montana State-Billings.  A rough shooting night for Cal State East Bay in the 73-61 opener was followed by another in on Nov. 9 which led ESU to its 67-53 triumph. It was anyone's game between the Pioneers and Yellow Jackets, but MSUB scored nine of the game's final 11 points to win in the CCA Tipoff Classic. Thus far, Danielle Peacon leads the team, averaging 14.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Brianna Terrance (12.3 ppg) and Stephanie Lopez (10.0 ppg) are also threats offensively. The Urban Knights are a perfect 5-0 against Cal State East Bay with their most recent victory a 59-56 result at last year's CCAA/PacWest Challenge.

WOMEN'S HOOPS STARTS YEAR 2-0 AFTER OREGON TRIP
In a pair of hard-fought matchups, ART U Women's Basketball stayed a perfect 2-0 with a 64-50 win over Western Oregon following a 69-55 triumph over Saint Martin's in the WOU/Double Tree by Hilton D2 Shootout. Both contests were eerily similar as it was anyone's game 75 percent of the way before a late run by the Urban Knights sealed their victory.

Versus SMU, Academy of Art used a 25-12 run to finish off the game, turning what was once a one-point affair into a 14-point win thanks in large part to seven points apiece from Camera, Guinn, and O'Brien in the second half. Against WOU, ART U trailed by three at halftime, but eventually turned a close game into another 14-point victory.

ART U SLATED TO FINISH FIRST OVERALL IN PACWEST
In the 2013-14 Preseason PacWest Women's Basketball Coaches Poll, Academy of Art was chosen first overall with six of 13 first place votes. The Knights received a total of 159 votes with Azusa Pacific's 145 points (three first place votes) putting them in second. Also earning top votes, California Baptist (140) and Hawaii Pacific (139) were in a tight race for the third and fourth spots.

WOMEN'S HOOPS COLLECTS VOTES ON NATIONAL POLL
After receiving votes on the USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 women's basketball poll the first seven times it was released last season, Academy of Art University Women's Basketball made its debut with 58 votes in this year's preseason release as determined by the USA Sports board of coaches, 33 members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Read more HERE!

LOOKING AHEAD
O Canada! Academy of Art next heads north beyond the USA boarder to face Simon Fraser twice in two days, playing the evenings of both Nov. 26 and 27 before the start of PacWest Conference play in early December.
