OPENING SERVE
The Urban Knights finished up the tournament season with a 3-5 record after facing stiff CCAA competition at the Route 92 Showdown. Three of the four matches went to five sets, with the Knights narrowly dropping two of those and claiming victory against Humboldt State.
KNIGHTS OUT FOR REVENGE
Academy of Art is looking to avenge last year's loss against Holy Names over in Oakland, a 3-2 marathon match that marked the only ART U defeat in seven previous matchups between these two teams. The Hawks have lost five in a row since their victory over Dominican at the Humboldt State Tournament on September 1. Katie Lopez is leading HNU with 71 kills so far, while Mariah Christensen is pacing the team with 129 assists. On the defensive end, Lopez 105 blocks to lead the Hawks.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE
Senior
Angela Heath has had quite a year already in 2012, and has currently put up a double-double in kills and digs in every match except one. She started off the year with a fantastic 17 kill - 28 dig effort against Dominican College (NY) and also had the third-most kills in history in a 25 kill - 17 dig performance against Humboldt State. Both matches ended in victory for the Urban Knights. Her 117 kills rank third in the conference so far.
DOMINATING DOMINICAN
The Urban Knights are looking to continue their success against their Bay Area opponents as they travel to San Rafael to take on Dominican. The Knights are 8-1 all-time against the Lady Penguins, including five straight wins and 15 straight sets against their Golden Gate Bridge rivals. The Penguins defeated Humboldt State at their own tournament earlier this year, but have lost five in a row coming into next week. Hannah Stocking is leading Dominican in kills while Sari Kwan is the team leader in digs.
WELCOME TO THE BLOCK PARTY
ART U newcomer
Lindsay Elgin has stepped right into the role in the middle that was vacated by graduated seniors Amy Bush and Camille Board, excelling as the Knights main blocker. The sophomore has totaled 32 blocks in the eight games so far, which ties her for fourth-most in the PacWest. Against San Francisco State she had a season-high eight blocks, which tied for fourth-most in program history in a single game. She also owns a .236 hitting percentage, which puts her into the top 20 in the conference.
SETTING IT UP
After this week's matches, the Urban Knights will travel to San Diego to take on Point Loma Nazarene University (Sep. 19), and then continue their Southern California road trip with matches against Azusa Pacific (Sep. 21) and California Baptist (Sep. 22).
