Chico, CA - The Urban Knights traveled into the unfriendly north on Friday night, and the nationally-ranked Chico State Wildcats lived up to their hype, sending Academy of Art back from Nettleton Stadium looking toward tomorrow. The Knights continued to hit, getting 7 hits and 13 total base runners, but Chico State exploded, scoring runs in five straight innings, including a seven-run fifth inning to defeat the Urban Knights 20-0.
ART U had a multi-hit games from
James Singzon, who had a single, a walk, and a double, and
Stefen Henderson and
Wade Broadstreet each had two walks, but the Urban Knights pitchers gave up 16 earned runs in the loss.
Myles Babitt also added a stolen base in the loss.
Yoshi Uemura (0-3) got the start, and after his great outing last week in relief, had a tough time regaining that form, giving up three runs in 2.0 innings, walking three and striking out three.
Ryan Donahoe had a rough day on the mound, going 2.2 innings and giving up 11 hits.
Spencer Roland closed out the day with 3.1 innings pitched, and notched a strikeout.
Chico State scored multiple runs in every inning from the second until the sixth. Shane Kroker had four hits, two RBIs, and two runs, playing the whole game at shortstop. Third-baseman Jordan Beck had four RBIs and three hits for the Wildcats as well. Starter Kagen Hopkins went six innings, walking three and giving up all seven Urban Knights hits, but getting six strikeouts.
These two teams will meet again on Saturday for a doubleheader, and then play the series finale on Sunday.
