FIRST PITCH
The Urban Knights were stung in their home park against Northwest Nazarene, who came in and put up a lot of offense in the three-game series at Laney College. The Knights were in the first two games of the series, but big innings by the Crusaders pushed it out of reach, sweeping the Knights in three games.
DOUBLE DOUBLE THREAT
Myles Babitt has been pulling double duty for the Urban Knights as a key player off the bench for the ART U men's basketball team, appearing in 24 games and averaging just under eight minutes per game in a backup role. He has also played multiple roles on the baseball team, appearing as the left fielder for the Knights and getting five hits in his first six games while also throwing a scoreless two-thirds of an inning against Dixie State.
LATE-INNING LANCERS
The Knights traveled to Riverside earlier this year and were within a couple outs of recording victories, but the Lancers pulled out two walk-off wins against Academy of Art. The Lancers recently jumped into the NCBWA Top 25 list, ranking at No. 22 in the country for Division II. Matt Marnati is currently on a 16-game hitting streak, and is batting .387 with nine doubles and 17 RBIs so far. Kevin Odom is batting .487, and is slugging .821 in 2012.
FRAME BY FRAME
Academy of Art has had a lot of success this year in the first inning, scoring more runs in the opening frame of games (13) than in in the other eight innings combined. They are currently scoreless in the fifth inning of games, but the first inning has been the most successful for the Urban Knights.
WHAT'S ON DECK
After the three-game series against CBU, the Knights will be away from Laney for almost a month, starting with a four-game swing up north at Chico State, facing off against the Wildcats for the second time in the program's history.
