TIPPING OFF
After securing their first international victory against Simon Fraser University, the Urban Knights came back to California and played a tough Cal Baptist team in both teams' Pacific West Conference opener to Cal Baptist. Point guard
Czar Robotham scored over 20 points for the second straight game but it wasn't enough to power the Knights past the Lancers as ART U fell 86-54.
Hunter Hayden added eight points and eight rebounds in a strong first half, but foul trouble kept him out of the game in the second.
STRAIGHT TO THE POINT
After averaging only 5.4 points per game last year, Robotham now sits at 11.4 points per contest, and is only a couple games away from topping his point total for the entirety of last season. His shooting percentage has risen as well, improving almost 10 percentage points in the last four games alone. After the game against Seattle Pacific, Robotham was shooting 36.8%, but has shot 25-of-42 from the floor in the past four games to raise his season percentage to 46.5%.
HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED
ART U center Hunter Hayden came into this season either leading or nearly leading a number of program records in Urban Knights basketball history. Hunter has logged the most games played (88), minutes (1933), rebounds (510), rebounding average (5.8 rpg), and blocks (70) in program history. He also just broke the program record for field goals made (209) against Cal Baptist, and is third in program history in scoring (534 points).
GETTING IN THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT
The Academy of Art men's basketball team continues to make an impact in the surrounding community, participating in the inaugural SAAC Clothing Drive just in time for the holiday season. The cagers were part of an Urban Knights effort that generously donated over 600 items of clothing to Larkin Street Youth Services, a local youth shelter in San Francisco. The event was sponsored by the ART U Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, who as part of their mission statement, aim to "create relationships between student-athletes and the community by organizing community service efforts and raising funds for various causes."
MASTERS OF THE HOUSE
The Master's College, members of the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) in the NAIA, comes into the game against the Knights winners of four of their last five. The Mustangs are shooting at a .479 clip from the field for the season, and also make over eight 3-pointers a game. Anthony Cammon (13.5) and Leif Carlberg (11.1) lead The Master's in scoring, while Paul Brown leads the Mustangs in rebounding (6.7 per game). The Mustangs are 6-1 at home, but will be making the trip to Kezar for the third matchup all time between the two schools.
URBAN KNIGHTS MAKING THE GRADE
Guards Ameer Shamsud-din and William Overton, Jr. have both made three PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Rolls, and Czar Robotham made his second of the year last week after his 23-point effort against the Lancers. In the first six Honor Rolls of the season, the Knights have had at least one representative on five of them, with Shamsud-din earning Player of the Week once as well.
NO REST FOR THE KNIGHTS
The Urban Knights come back early from the holiday break to take on the Mustangs, and will play right on through the intersession at Academy of Art, resuming their conference schedule with a matchup against Dixie State on January 3rd and then the rematch against Cal Baptist at home on January 5th.
