OPENING SERVE
The Urban Knights came back from Hawaii after a grueling road trip, playing six games in eight days and coming away with a 2-4 record. The tough trip pitted the Knights against three of the top four teams in the PacWest, including PacWest Champ and D-II Western Region No.3 seed BYU-Hawaii not once, but twice.
SPOILER ALERT
Academy of Art stormed into Honolulu last week and, after dispatching Chaminade 3-0, proceeded to put a serious damper on the post-season hopes of Hawaii Pacific, taking them down in five sets. HPU was stymied by Leinani Keanini (16 kills) and Ka'ena Kaina (15 kills), and Amy Bush tied a program record with 11 total blocks to take down the then-ranked #6 Sea Warriors.
FEARSOME FOURSOME
Keanini and Bush mark half of the four seniors that will be honored in a ceremony before Friday's game, the other half being composed of middle blocker Camille Board and defensive specialist Nicolette Hagan. Bush finishes her three-year career as the all-time leader in hitting percentage (.308) and blocks (243). Board finishes the Top 5 in career kills, attempts, hitting percentage, total points, and service aces, and is second behind Bush in blocks (174). Hagan has played the most matches in program history (92), and will be the first to play four full years in an Urban Knight uniform, graduating in May with a degree in Multimedia Communications.
KEANINI DOUBLING DOWN
Leinani Keanini ends her Academy of Art tenure on fire, recording double-digit kills in eight straight matches, and a double-double in kills and digs in five straight. Her performance in Hawaii earned her a PacWest Top Ten Honor Roll selection, her fourth of her career, as she posted 63 kills and 76 digs last week, an average of 12.6 kills and 15.2 digs per match.
ARGOS TURN IT AROUND IN PWC
The Notre Dame de Namur women's volleyball team headed into the PacWest slate with an 0-10 record in 2011, and did not face an easy task headed into Hawaii right off the bat, losing two more to Hawaii-Hilo and BYU-Hawaii. But the Argos have amassed all of their wins during conference play, including a win over Academy of Art on Oct. 20 that put the two teams in a virtual dead heat in the standings. On that date, Jennifer Jasper led the team with 17 kills for the game with Christina Villamayor adding 13 kills and 22 digs. In their last game against Cal Baptist, Villamayor led the Argos with 13 kills while Jasper came on late to tack on 12.
